Swift Current has been named as one of the 6 finalists for the In-Motion Community Pledge Challenge that could see our city win $10,000 to put towards physical activity.

Swift Current's In-Motion Community Facilitator Val Choo-Foo says it was the number of pledges contributed by local residents that gave them a strong finish to the first round.

"We knew at the end of December that we came in second place with 460 pledges, with Unity coming in first," Choo-Foo explains. "A panel of judges then made a decision for the finalists based on pledges and also our proposal we had sent in to explain what we would do with the $10,000 if we had won."

That proposal includes highlighting programs that are already happening and expanding the after school youth program called "Fit For Fun."

The next step involves our help again, as everything now comes down to a vote through a website. "Until January 29, those finalist communities will have a chance to have their residents vote everyday," Choo-Foo says. "Once you go on there, there will be a process to vote"

Voting can be done once per day, the community with the most votes at the end of the 12 day period will win the money for their proposal. Swift Current would plan to use the funds for the 'Fit for Fun' after-school program.

The Town of Leader also qualified as one of the final six in the In-Motion Community Pledge Challenge.
