Swift Current's Branch 56 of the Royal Canadian Legion has had another step in their major renovations completed.

New flooring has been installed according to branch president David Boucher. He explains the support behind replacing the half-century old flooring.

"It was 1967 when the old floor that was in there was put in, and it was certainly time that we did put a new one in. It was rather expensive so we had donations from the public and membership, and we also qualified for a grant for the Federal Government for about $25,000 which certainly helped. The project cost over $60,000 so the grant almost covered half which was nice," he said.

The branch president also shared the thrill amongst the longstanding members to see all of these renovations being done.

"They're pretty excited about it because a lot of our membership has been around for a lot of years. I've only been in the branch for about 14 years when I got stationed here. But the longer-serving members who were born and raised in Swift Current think it's about time that we've done this work," he said.

This is the third set of renovations the Legion has undergone in the past 3 years. In that time the Legion has redone the roof, put in new walls, added insulation, added a new suspended ceiling and new lighting.

The next project scheduled for the Legion would be bathroom renovations in the facility.
