Swift Current has joined in on a global protest sweeping the globe.

Saturday outside of city hall, protesters adorned yellow high visibility vests and joined in others from around the world in protesting against tax and immigration issues.

Originating in France, these 'yellow vest' protests have since spread to the United Kingdom, Belgium, and now Canada.

Debora Voll, who describes herself as pro-Canadian, was with around 20 other people at the rally and said that she wanted to preserve the country in its present state.

"I've never been political before, I've always been one of the Canadian apathetics, and I just see where our money is going to the foreign instead of Canadians first, and that's, I think unifying everyone, and that's when I got on board."

The issue of immigration was spurred with the group of protesters due to Canada signing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), which changes Canada's regulations when it comes to immigration.

Voll, who said that the day's turnout was good and support was very positive, explained why she had an issue with the pact.

"It's opening the borders, it's non-binding, but like the Paris Accord, it's dictated to us, whether we want to believe it or not, that's implementing the carbon tax, it's non-binding, but it's a gun to our head."

Voll said that she was drawn to join the demonstration after seeing it on Facebook.
