With Saint Patrick's Day on Saturday, there were more than a few people in and around Swift Current celebrating the luck of the Irish.

That led to a busy night for police according to City RCMP Staff Sergeant Al MacDonell, who summed up some of the reported incidents from the weekend.

“There were two liquor act charges laid, disturbing the peace two incidents of those, one charge of cannabis was laid, three assault files were opened, theft under five thousand dollars we had three of those incidents reported, and mischief we had seven of those reported.”

Staff Sergeant MacDonell said it seemed to be normal for Saint Patrick's Day

“Really nothing...just another weekend really as far as we're concerned.”

Meanwhile, the RCMP presented their crime stats to February at Monday's council meeting. They showed a decrease in instances of break and enter and sex offences compared to this time last year, but increases in reported traffic offences and fraud.
