The City of Swift Current is sending out property tax notices by the end of June, and while you won't see the hospital levy anymore, you will see a new $35 levy for the new long-term-care facility.

After completion of hospital payments, the $100 levy property owners have been paying for the past decade is no longer.

The Meadows long-term-care centre opened in Swift Current in November and can house over 200 residents. For the next three decades, there will be a levy to pay for long-term care.

"Council approved to commit to funding a portion of the long-term-care facility, and that started the process for the long-term-care levy for residents that will be on their tax cards this year," said the city's general manager of corporate services, Kathy Hopfner. "Residential properties will be levied $35 and the commitment is for 30 years. So annually we will be paying the province approximately $330,000 to satisfy our portion of the long-term-care commitment that we made."

Tax notices are being sent to property owners next week, and payments are due July 31.

Those signed up for the city's monthly Preauthorized Payment Plan will have their balance continue to be paid through monthly payments, according to a news release on Wednesday. They will receive an Electronic Funds Transfer notification with details on the new monthly payments separate from their 2017 Tax Notice.

Instead of going to City Hall, property owners can also check with their financial institution about how to pay online. Online payments can take a couple business days to process.

If using online banking, the unique account number is at the top right corner of the tax notice.
