On Friday, we told you that the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current will be without the services of a general surgeon for emergency surgeries, but the Cypress Health Region has received some good news.

"We have been very fortunate to have been able to find some locum assistance for general surgery services at the Cypress Regional Hospital," said Bryce Martin, Executive Communications Director for the Health Region. "What that means is that we will have a locum general surgeon that will be starting with us on Monday, March 12, who will be able to provide the majority of on-call coverage for the month of March for general surgery services."

The locum comes in as Dr. Ahmad extended his leave in his home in the United Kingdom, and Dr. Ghori is doing just elective surgeries as he prepares for his Royal College Certification Exams.

Martin indicates that more locum assistance could be on the way. "He has also been in contact with a couple of other general surgeons who may be able to provide some additional assistance as we move into the early stages of April," he added. "Those discussions are continuing, and if a workable solution can be found out for the timelines that we're needing it, perhaps we can even find that opportunity to provide ongoing emergent coverage, until our regular and permanent general surgeons get back into the mix."
