A late night call to the Swift Current Rural RCMP on Thursday night led to a Calgary man being arrested and charged five criminal code offenses.

Just after midnight on September 21 the RCMP were notified of a suspicious car in Gull Lake and upon further investigation, the 2017 Honda Civic was deemed to be stolen.

Once the car was located by police, they arrested 36-year-old Jamie Farkas and charged him with one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000, one count of possession of stolen property under $5,000, one count of possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Farkas also received a roadside suspension for operating the vehicle while impaired by drugs.

The Calgary man appeared in Swift Current Provincial Court yesterday morning and was sentenced to nine months in jail.

The RCMP are reminding the public to remove items of value, keys, and key fobs from vehicles to help prevent thefts.
