A presentation from Cypress Hills Eco Adventures was one of the final events of the two-day 49x110 conference.

The Provincial Government will be moving Tourism Saskatchewan from an arm's length agency to a Crown corporation.

That was a topic of discussion as Tourism Swift Current held its Spring Conference and AGM last week.

“We did do a tourism review in 2009. That is actually posted on the Ministry Of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport website,” said Ken Dueck, Executive Director of Tourism with the provincial Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport, “There was consultation along with that and so many of the recommendations that were made in the review are ones being acted upon now”

There should be very little change to their programs and services through the transition, said Candace Phelps, Acting President and CEO of Tourism Saskatchewan,

“The great cooperative marketing programs we've been running in the past and this year actually over subscribed those are going to continue. We're quite excited, our industry development work, our destination areas in that were looking at continuing in all of those areas and doing what ever we can to make sure we put a model in place, that are training and education programs are in place as well.”

She adds local tourism organizations, like Tourism Swift Current, should not be affected either, “Tourism Swift Current is a fantastic organization. We work with them, we work with a number of groups across the different cities, destination areas, smaller communities, all of that will continue in the future”

The legislation making the change official is expected to be passed by the end of the spring sitting of the legislature.
