The Town of Shaunavon has finalized its budget for the year.

The new uniform municipal mill rate is 8.9, compared to 8.7 in 2017.

Chief Administrative Officer for The Town of Shaunavon, Tara Fritz, talks about the budget saying "With the changes in the Operating Budget we have had an increase of approximately 2% of taxation, which the Town of Shaunavon has taken into consideration the Consumer Price Index, which is inflation for Saskatchewan. It's a little higher than 2% but we have budgeted a 2% increase in taxes to reflect that Consumer Price Index."

Fritz adds that taxes will increase for some residents of the community anywhere from five dollars to thirty-five dollars per year.

She also explains the changes to the Utilities Operating Budget. "So, there will be a 2% increase in utility rates effective October 1, 2018. With that in mind, the Town of Shaunavon is looking at doing a Capital Project in regards to installing UV filtration into the Town of Shaunavon's water system. With that UV filtration, it will allow the Town of Shaunavon to not utilize as much chlorination to disinfect the raw water."

Fritz adds that utility rates increased by 3% in 2017's budget.
