Operation "March Madness" kicks off today

Traffic enforcement officers will be watching for aggresive drivers as operation "March Madness" kicks off today.

Manager of media relations for SGI, Rebecca Rogoshewsky said

“What we'll see is law enforcement officers across the province on the look out for traffic violations such as speeding, driving to fast for road conditions, running red lights, not stopping at stop signs, even stunting, racing, or passing on the right on a highway.”

Traffic enforcement officers will be watching for aggressive driving over the two day traffic Blitz.

Over 4100 accidents occur on Saskatchewan highways each year because of aggressive driving.

Rogoshewsky adds each blitz is different.

“With each blitz what we do is try and focus on a different aspect of traffic safety, operation crossroads focused on violations at intersections, operation overdrive focus on imparied driving, operation handsfree again was distracted driving and cellphones while driving, each one has a bit of a different focus”

Rogoshewsky says the goal is to promote safe driving in general.
