The plane crash in Russia also evokes memories of the tragic bus crash that took the lives of four Swift Current Broncos in 1986.
Scott Kruger, Trent Kresse, Brent Ruff, and Chris Mantyka lost their lives after the Broncos went off the road on December 30th of that year.
On the 20th anniversary of the crash, former Bronco Tim Tisdale told Golden West Radio it has stuck with him ever since.
Former Broncos Assistant Coach Lorne Frey said he thinks of them often.
Hockey legend Joe Sakic was on the bus and spoke about the impact it had on him during his recent induction into the Bronco Hall of Fame.
The Broncos retired the numbers of each player lost in the bus crash and local hockey teams wear a patch to honour them to this day.
