It was a difficult way to start the long weekend following a fatal crash in Moose Jaw late Thursday night that claimed the life of a 17-year-old girl and sent a 16-year-old girl to hospital.

The single vehicle accident happened just after 11:00pm on the Manitoba Street Expressway when an eastbound vehicle lost control, hitting a power pole.

The 16-year-old driver of the vehicle has since been released from hospital with a broken collar bone. The name of the 17-year-old female passenger who was killed is not being released at this time. Both teenagers attended high school at Peacock Collegiate in Moose Jaw.

Alcohol was not a factor in the collision.

Moose Jaw City Police is continuing to investigate.
