It's an eight-year imprisonment sentence for the truck driver that caused the deadly Humboldt Broncos bus crash.

The sentence was handed down to Jaskirat Singh Sidhu in Melfort court earlier this morning.

Judge Inez Cardinal told the courtroom that Sidhu's remorse and guilty plea were mitigating factors in the sentencing.

The defence was asking for a sentence of one-and-a-half to four-and-a-half years and the Crown was seeking a 10-year prison sentence.
