Swift Current Provincial Court

Two BC men appeared in Swift Current Provincial Court yesterday after being charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.

Last Friday, members of the Swift Current Regional Traffic Services Unit stopped a semi-trailer on Highway 1, 16km west of Swift Current, travelling from BC to Ontario.

An investigation of the trailer revealed the log books were not in regulatory compliance. Further investigation resulted in a seizure of 87.5lbs of marijuana, which is believed to have a street value of around $180,000.

RCMP Media Relations Sergeant Paul Dawson says they continue to keep a close eye on the highway for this type of activity.

"If there is one where this is occurring, very likely there are many more that are occurring as well," says Dawson. "Our members are diligent, they're out there. When these seizures are made there are probably others that are getting through, so we are going to continue to be out there."

The Burnaby men have been released from custody. Their next court appearance is scheduled for June 18th in Swift Current.
