Recent employment trends seem to be the same in our region as they are generally across the province and country.

There are 600 fewer people working in the Swift Current/Moose Jaw region than there were in September and 1800 fewer than a year ago. The labour force is also significantly smaller. It fell from 53,800 people working or looking for work last year at this time to 51,500.

It's good news for those looking for work as the unemployment rate dropped from 4.5% last year to 3.8% in September and 3.7% in October. That's the second lowest unemployment rate in the province, behind only Regina/Moose Mountain.

Across the province, the unemployment rate dropped from 4.9% to 4.4% over the last month, while at the same time the provincial labour force declined by 4100.

The national unemployment rate dropped from 7.4% to 7.1% from September to October, and the national labour force shrunk by 141,000 people over the month.
