A group hoping to keep the Saskatchewan Transportation Company alive has lost their battle.

The Amalgamated Transit Union representing the workers affected by the closure of the STC took the government to court over their decision to eliminate the STC in the provincial budget.  A Court of Queen's Bench judge ruled in favor of the province, saying that the budget move was within the law.

Justice Lian Schwann told the group that the government has the authority to decide how public money will be spent and that the cut to the STC is not subject to judicial review.

The STC closure will continue as planned, with service being halted at the end of the month.
