The front window at the NDP Campaign Office on Central Ave N in Swift Current was broken overnight

An ugly incident to kick off the 2011 election campaign in Swift Current after a local candidate's office was vandalized sometime Thursday night.

RCMP were called in Friday morning after volunteers working with NDP candidate Aaron Ens discovered a tire jack had been thrown through the front window of his office on Central Ave North. The damage was discovered at 9:00am in the morning and no one was in the building at the time of the incident.

Ens says he won't speculate a reason for the vandalism, but is hopeful that politics weren't involved, saying that it would reflect very poorly on the whole political process. He adds it's unfortunate that this has to happen at this point in time, but they will deal with things as they would otherwise and keep going with the campaign.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
