As is the case with many events this year, frontier days 2020 went virtual

This year's event saw many virtual activities take place including a Bring 'N Back The Beard contest which General Manager of the Swift Current Ag & Ex, Tracey Stevenson says really embodied the spirit of frontier days.

"There were three of them that submitted that their generation and their past generation also had been part of the beard contest from previous years. So it was good to see three generations coming together and that's what frontier days is about from generation to generation to generation so good to see that."

Although they knew things would look different this year, Stevenson said that they still wanted to provide something for the community and she thinks they did that and the community jumped on board and had some fun doing it.

Judging by their virtual numbers this year was a success as Stevenson explains.

"We had over 25,000 new hits on our Facebook page and on our website so it wasn't just Swift Current that joined in with us, it was the whole southwest and all of Canada. We put Swift Current still on the map and that was our goal."

Additional events held included a parade tour and colouring contest.

The community also had the opportunity to enter a t-shirt design contest with the winner's chosen design being placed on a shirt for purchase next year and it will be used as part of a fundraising opportunity for next year's event as the Ag & Ex is a non-profit.

Local eating establishments were also able to get in on the fun with the Taste of the Fair, which saw a number of restaurants adding fair type food to their menu for the week. Stevenson adds they enjoyed this particular event and plan on keeping it for years to come.
