Tuesday night over 300 people pigged out to raise money for a new PA system for the Waldeck Elementary & Junior High School.

The fundraiser featured over 30 silent, live, and dessert auction items as well as a pig roast supper, and some bouncy castles for the kids.

Rachelle Patzer is a chairperson on the SCC at the Waldeck School and said the fundraiser went really well.

"We are a small community and we are so close to Swift Current there isn't a lot of community," she said. "There's no town hall, there's no rec centre, there's really no place for anyone to gather. As a school, we've decided that we would like to try and be that place for the community to bring people together. To see the support of people wanting to come out, that's just huge for us and encourages us to keep on going."

Patzer said they got that they knew they needed a new PA system after the Christmas concert last year.

"We had our Christmas concert in December. It was a fabulous concert, but the sound was horrible," she said. "We had feedback happening everywhere, mics squealing, so it was after that we said how can we bring the community together and raise money for funds in the school that we need, and this was what we came up with."

After the over 30 silent, live, and dessert auction items, 50/50, door prize and ticket sales were added up, as well as donations from business the school was able to raise $10,650 for a new PA system for the school of 120 students.

nity has really benefitted from, and the kids have really enjoyed, and we've been very proud of. We've been lucky in that regard."

Martinez added that they wouldn’t have been to raise all the money without the rest of the community.

"It's heartwarming to see that type of support that we get from all around,” he said. “Whether it's a financial standpoint whether it's just their contributions and their generosity in terms of their time, whether it's coming and giving the energy to the event, everybody contributes a little bit, and many hands make small work."

All of $10,650 that was raised will be put into the new PA and sound system, which Martinez said he is excited to hear it come next year.
