A large turnout at Riverside Park yesterday morning for the annual CARSTAR Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History.

Over 80 participants helped raise in excess of $25,500 to help thousands of young Canadians fight Cystic Fibrosis (CF).

"The money raised gets sent to the South Saskatchewan Cystic Fibrosis Chapter," said Yvonne Laviolette one of the organizers for the CARSTAR Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History. "From there it gets put into a Cystic Fibrosis fund and used for research, support and development for the families."

The event that was hosted by the Kinsmen and Kinettes of Swift Current was attended by three families from the southwest that are affected by Cystic Fibrosis.

"It was a great success," Laviolette said. "The sun was shining, a little bit of a breeze to keep the walkers cool and the walkers did a fabulous job and brought in an excess of $25,500."

Currently, there is no cure for CF, which is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults.
