This winter Swift Current residents will once again have the chance to stay active while keeping warm and not having to deal with the dangers of slippery ice.

The Walking For Wellness Program provides an indoor environment to walk free of charge.

City Recreation Scheduling Superintendant Nicole Peno says the free program is quite popular, saying they usually have between 20 to 40 walkers per night, and they involve people of all ages, from seniors to families with newborns.

Peno adds they are also trying something new this year, supplying pedometers to participants to help them guage themselves and challenge themselves to get more steps in each night.

The program has also expanded to include morning walks from 9:00am to 10:30am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Stockade Building at Kinetic Exhibition Park, as well as evening walks from 6:30pm to 8:30pm on Mondays and Fridays at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School.

Evening walks have already begun while the morning walks will start on November 1st.
