Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall

Premier Brad Wall is reflecting on a major shake up to his government, saying he wanted to build a cabinet that was prepared to tackle growth.

"Later this year, we will present a plan to Saskatchewan that's very much based on what we've been doing so far but takes a look into the future, and I wanted to make sure that how our government was structured was consistent with that plan," Wall told reporters on Friday.

Part of Wall's focus on growth included combining economic functions like Enterprise Saskatchewan, Tourism Saskatchewan, employment and immigration into the new Ministry of the Economy, which will be led by Kindersley MLA Bill Boyd.

Another focus of the cabinet shuffle is something that has been a major concern for the southwest... staffing rural hospitals.

"I think we need to do better in terms of rural health in this province, we have challenges remaining in terms of doctor shortages, but not just that," Wall added. "We're going to ask (Biggar MLA) Randy Weekes as the minister of Rural and Remote Health to be engaged on that file and, literally, hit the road."

Friday's cabinet shuffle saw only two of the 18 previous cabinet ministers keep their portfolios.
