The school year could start after Labour Day, if the Saskatchewan Party is re-elected on November 7th.

Party Leader Brad Wall made the announcement Thursday, saying a recent study by Tourism Saskatchewan showed 60 per cent of tourism-related businesses say their business suffers from students starting before Labour Day. He explained that it also messes up the last long weekend of the summer.

Wall says the changes could be implemented as early as next fall.

Meanwhile, NDP Leader Dwain Lingenfelter made an announcement he said would help address poverty issues, including raising minimum wage, increasing social assistance programs and bringing rent controls to Saskatchewan.

He says record high usage of the food bank in our province is evidence that the Wall government has not addressed poverty issues in its four years.
