There might not be any snow left on the ground after this week in the Swift Current area as some warmer weather is moving in.

The warmer temperatures started on Sunday and look like they could continue right into next week after the southwest was hit with a five-day cold stretch last week.

Terri Lang, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said the warm-up is due to the cold arctic air leaving the province and a chinook rolling through.

"It's that milder southwesterly wind comes down off the mountains and warms up as it comes down and dries out," she said. "The word chinook literally means snow eater so that's probably what it's going to do over the next few days, as that mild air continues to stream in."

The daytime highs throughout the week on most days are expected to creep just above the freezing mark with the lows at night time ranging from -4 C to - 9 C.

"Which means any of the melting snow might turn to ice in the overnight and early morning periods, so people should keep an eye out for that," Lang warned.

While Christmas is still two weeks away this warmer stretch could put a white Christmas in jeopardy.

"The forecast after about a week or so are showing a trend to more colder conditions and maybe some precipitation going through then so we will just have to keep an eye on it," she said. "People don't like green Christmases or a brown Christmas, they like their Christmases to be white."
