The City of Swift Current will shut down the 6
th Ave booster station on Thursday, May 31.

The City retained a contractor to commence the installation of a new water main in 2011. This main crosses the Swift Current Creek and 6th Ave NE, in the area east of the library. The existing water main services the Ashley Park and Hillcrest residential areas. It also provides supplemental pressure to areas in the NE quadrant of the city.

In late 2011, the contractor bored a new casing pipe under the creek, which accommodates the installation of a new 16 inch water main. The contractor has been working on the tie-ins of the new line.

"This upgrade is a critical component of managing our water supply system. As the pipes age they need to be replaced prior to failure to continue to ensure a good drinking water supply throughout the city," said Trevor Feicht, Manager of Engineering and Planning Services. "In this case the size of the new pipe is also being slightly increased in order to accommodate continued growth within the city."

Some residents may see a slight drop in pressure while the booster station is shutdown for the tie-in. The old water main will be abandoned upon finalization of the tie-in.
