The Western Canada Summer Games may be all wrapped up, but they will be leaving venues and equipment for the southwest.

The Highland-Coulee Bike Trail, Beach Volleyball courts, and equipment to the Chinook School Division and the City will be sticking around.

"We do have facilities. We have the equipment we are leaving to the schools, to the city," Mark Benesh, the co-chair of the Western Canada Summer Games said. "The mountain bike course, the beach volleyball court, the wrestling mats. All those kinds of things. There is a lot of track equipment being left at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School to enhance their program. We recently heard that Lac Pelletier is considering a rowing club."

Benesh said that the legacy projects are how the Games will continue.

"There are a lot of pieces to the legacy," he said. "I've seen a lot of people I wouldn't normally see out running. I see some Dads and Moms playing on some courts outside shooting hoops outside. There's a human legacy piece that I think we've inspired the next generation of athletes and I think that's the most important legacy."

He added that he hopes with the new venues and equipment he hopes Swift Current can host other sports events.
