This week's warmer weather isn't doing any favours for City crews as they're trying to get the outdoor rinks ready for the winter season.

So far all five of the outdoor rinks have about an inch or two of ice on them, but the City wants a good chunk more.

"We're usually going with anywhere between four and five inches, but depending on where you're and what rink you're at," Michael Newell, Swift Current's parks superintendent, said. "Some of the outdoor rinks have a little bit more of a bow in it, so it's dependant per rink, but we definitely want more than what we have out there."

With the daytime highs, for at least the next week, around or above the freezing mark it's pushing the City to change their game plan for flooding.

"We're switching up our shifts so we're going to take advantage of the cold weather at night," he said. "With the incoming temperatures above zero, it makes it difficult to make ice during the day, so we're just plotting along with mother nature."

The City hopes to have the rinks open around when Christmas holidays begin for the kids.

"Obviously that's an important time for us at the outdoor rinks and the City and the families wanting some outdoor activities to partake in."
