The Western Canada Summer Summer Games have brought a lot to Swift Current, including athletes, other visitors, and pride in hosting the event - but something less than desirable has also arrived.

A release from the Host Society of the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games outlined that reports are coming in of attempts at fraud and phishing, spurring from online viewership of the games.

They claim that on Facebook, people have been offering live feeds of the games and their ceremonies for a fee.

"If someone is offering that, or wants you to pay for it, you will know they are not a solid source and are phishing for information," said Carrie Voysey, co-director of communications, promotions, and media with the Games.

"The digital footprint that's been created by the Games is large. Unfortunately, there are people out there that are looking to take advantage of that."

Signs to look for when trying to determine if a phishing attempt is being made on you, is to look at the domain name of the website, or if something fishy shows up in your inbox, inspect the email address it came from.

A stream of the opening ceremonies was free to watch.

Sporting events won't be being streamed by official sources during the Games.
