A popular event  to kick off summer in Swift Current is getting closer.

The Long Day's Night Music Festival is on June 21st to 24th, with the Windscape Kite Festival set for June 23rd and 24th in the festival site on the corner of 11th Ave SW and Marston Street.

The Music Festival will be four days long this year, and Cultural Festivals Co-ordinator Shann Gowan says one of the headliners is no stranger to the event.

"On June 23rd, we have Jordan Cook," Gowan said. "We had Jordan Cook here for the very first Long Day's Night Festival we had, he was just a kid then, and he is amazing. He is the best guitarist you'll ever see."

The festival will also feature Yukon Blonde on June 21st, Delhi 2 Dublin on June 22nd and Elliott Brood will wrap everything up on June 24th.

As for the Kite Festival, Gowan says it should be another great event, with kite flyers and entertainers from around the world set to attend. "We have two kite teams coming all the way from Germany," Gowan added. "They have big show kites, and we're really excited... We also have a team of sport kiters that are coming from California that will be absolutely fantastic."

Gowan added they are looking for volunteers to help out with the event, saying they would like to fill some morning and afternoon shifts, adding lots of jobs are available, including working the kids' tent and serving food.
