Crews at work this morning at Central and Chaplin.

A long project to improve the intersection of Central Avenue North and Chaplin Street in downtown Swift Current is almost finally complete.

The new traffic signals that were installed earlier this month went into full operation this week, and City Engineering Services Manager Trevor Feicht says crews will work today to remove the old lights.

“They'll be closing off the road once again, in segments, to do the removal of the old infrastructure and put up the signage and whatnot and that should pretty much finalize the project.”

Feicht says the city is planning the same project for the intersection of Chaplin and 2nd Avenue Northeast.

“We'll get everything lined up and in order and probably hit it hard late summer or in the fall. Try and have that from start to finish, do it in about a three week or a one month process instead of dragging it out for a year.”

The new traffic lights went along with other improvements made to the intersection, which included re-paving and improved turning radiuses.
