Thanks to everyone who supported the Swift Current Salvation Army's Christmas Campaign this season! Here's a final update from Major Don Grad...
The final fundraising total, as of Dec. 31, is $231,775. We praise God for the support that we have received from many people/ groups/ businesses/ etc. in Swift Current and area.
The Christmas Day Community Dinner was a great event. We estimate that we had about 160 guests, along with 50+ volunteers. The food was excellent, and there was good conversation and socializing. Entertainment was from the Doyle's. Santa was there, and everyone left with a gift of one, two, or more teddy bears, along with some other gifts. Like all our Christmas activities, the credit for the success goes to a great team of staff and volunteers, who put in many hours to make it all happen.
Some statistics in regards to Christmas Hampers:
- 284 Hampers total, which went to 299 adults and 258 children/youth.
- we make Hampers for three basic groups, for families, for couples, and for singles
- the total weight of all the Hampers would be about 30,000 pounds. This represents perhaps 22,000 pounds of non-perishable food, and 8,000 pounds of potatoes, meat, bread, milk, and more.
- the sorting of food donations, packing of hampers, distribution of hampers, and related activities, represents hundreds of volunteer hours.
