The calendar is turning to December, which means we are getting closer to the return of the Ford World Women's Curling Championship to Swift Current on March 19-27!

The curling season is well underway, and now we know all of the countries that have qualified for the Worlds in 2016. Canada and the USA will be here along with eight countries that qualified from the European Curling Championships that were held in Denmark last week. The European representatives will be the 2010 champions from Germany and silver-medallist Scotland, along with Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Switzerland, and newcomers Italy and Finland. From the Aisa-Pacific Championship held earlier in the season in Kazakhstan, Japan and another newcomer, South Korea, punched their tickets to Swift Current.

The specific teams that will take part will be determined in the weeks and months to come as playdowns and nominations take place in each country. We'll find out who'll represent Canada when the 2016 Scotties Tournament of Hearts gets going in Grande Prairie, Alberta, this February.

In the meantime, tickets for the Ford Worlds are on sale, and if you've got a curling fan on your Christmas list, these will make a great gift. Full-event packages, mini ticket packs and select single draw tickets are now on sale at, or you can get them at the Stable in the Credit Union iplex, or by calling 306-773-1509. is Swift Current's only source for community news and information such as weather and classifieds.
