We all know someone who has been touched by cancer, and we wish there was more we could do to battle this awful disease. This weekend many of our friends and neighbors will be putting that wish into action at the 13th annual Swift Current "Relay for Life".
Arlene McKenzie is a cancer survivor and the events ceremonial chairperson. "We raised between $80,000 to $86,000 (last year) somewhere in that ball park and I think that's kind of the goal that we shoot for." 21 teams will be part of the event which starts tonight and runs into Sunday morning at Riverside Park. The evening starts with a BBQ and opening ceremony at 5:00 and events continue all thru the night. One of the most moving parts of the relay is the "Luminary Ceremony" at 10:30 where we remember those who have lost the fight against cancer. Magic 97 will be at the relay with the Summer Events Cruiser so make sure to stop by and say hello.
The Relay for Life is just one of many events happening in Swift Current and the southwest this weekend. There is also a special night at Speedy Creek Racing on Saturday celebrating Dad's and Kid's where you'll get a chance to get on the track and see the cars and drivers.
Where ever you go this weekend, take Magic 97 along. Stay safe and have fun!!
