The greatest country in the world turns 148 years young on Wednesday!
Canada Day events will be happening all over the southwest as we celebrate both our nation's birthday and the 50th anniversary of the Maple Leaf flag, which flew for the first time on February 15th, 1965. Swift Current will be having a flag raising at Memorial Park (1st Ave NE at Herbert Street) starting at 12:00 noon followed by free cake and hot dogs, and in Shaunavon, the Grand Coteau Heritage and Cultural Centre will be hosting some free events through the afternoon including the first Farmer's Market of the season and a classic car show. There will also be a fireworks display at the ball diamonds in Shaunavon at dusk.
Magic 97 will also be part of the fun, as we will be taking part in the Canada Day Putt-a-Thon at Dairy King in Swift Current. Colin will be golfing on Wednesday afternoon along with Kathy from Country Music Radio and two lucky children who entered the draw at Dairy King, which will also be open regular hours on Wednesday if you want a quick break from your Canada Day celebrations.
Have a fun, safe Canada Day, and take precautions with the poor air quality conditions caused by the wildfire smoke. If you want more information on how you or your family can protect themselves, you can contact your healthcare professional or call the Provincial Healthline at 8-1-1.
