Tracey and Candace are pictured here with SunDogs basketball players, some of the celebrity readers for yesterday's "Score One for Literacy" event at the Swift Current Mall.

With invitations extended to Grade 3 students throughout the City of Swift Current, the participants listened to readings from various celebrity readers throughout the day, and then were helped by teachers and Swift Current Library staff members to make crafts that the students were then able to take home.

The Chinook District Libraries are raising funds so that they not only can buy more books for students in the region, but also so that improved technology literacy is more readily available for students in a wide area.

Maker Space kits essentially give those using them the chance to create their own robotics prototypes - and the Swift Current Library staff really feel that creativity is an important mandate of their programs.

In addition to monetary donations to assist with the purchasing of these "Maker Space" kits, the library can also use donations of Lego blocks. Who DOESN'T have a million pieces of that kicking around? If you do, and you're not using it - the Library sure would love it!
