The 2016 Ford World Women's Curling Championship will be underway in Swift Current in one month's time, and the excitement is continuing to build around the city.
Five teams have now been confirmed for the event, and of them, three skips will be returning to Swift Current from the last time the Worlds were here in 2010. They are Erika Brown of Team USA, Binia Feltscher of Team Switzerland, and Eve Muirhead of Scotland, who won a silver medal in 2010. Satsuki Fujisawa and Gim Un-chi will be newcomers for Teams Japan and South Korea, respectively, next month.
Muirhead and the Scots were one of the more popular teams with fans at the event six years ago, and I would bet a lot of people are looking forward to seeing them here again next month. Also, Muirhead's third at the time, Kelly Wood, liked our city so much, she decided to marry our Mayor and make her home here. Now Kelly Schafer, she is the co-chair of this year's Ford Worlds Host Committee, so it will be a reunion of sorts between the two.
Muirhead coming back may also give me a chance at redemption from a mistake I made during a post-match interview with her in 2010...
We'll find out who Team Canada will be soon as the Scotties Tournament of Hearts are going on now in Grande Prairie, Alberta, with the final set for February 28th.
