We're just one sleep away from the start of the Ford World Women's Curling Championship! It's hard to believe that it was 16 months ago when we found out it was coming back to our city for a second time, and six years since Swift Current last hosted in 2010, and we are just about ready to roll out the welcome mat for these international athletes and fans once again!
On Thursday, we were invited to a kick-off event hosted by Ford of Canada at Original Joe's, where Chelsea Carey and Team Canada played some street curling on the patio and talked with reporters before hitting the ice for real today.
Later in the afternoon, we welcomed our four Ten Ends on Us qualifiers to the Swift Current Mall, where they played Street Curling to win tickets to the Ford Worlds. Congratulations to Kim Hadden, who won the game and a pair of championship weekend tickets, as well as Dakota Thiese, who won opening weekend tickets. Lynn Nash and Melinda Glas each won a pair of single draw tickets, and Lisa Willows won a surprise draw for single draw tickets at the event!
Many curling fans in Swift Current still have memories of the party in the Patch in 2010, and they will get to re-live those this week! Jeff Chambers is running the Patch again this time around, and joined us in studio this morning...
We can't wait to get things started! The opening ceremonies at the Credit Union iplex start at 12:00 noon on Saturday, followed by Draw #1 at 2:00pm, featuring Canada taking on Denmark. Tickets for the curling are going very quickly, and you don't want to miss out! You can get them online at curling.ca/tickets or call the Bronco office at 306-773-1509.
Golden West will have a booth at the patch all through the event, and Magic 97 will be broadcasting live from there Tuesday afternoon from 12:00-4:00pm. Stop by our booth to say hi, and get a chance to win some awesome prizes!
