The Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association have released a short video highlighting this year’s National Environmental Stewardship Award winners.

The importance of developing and maintaining a healthy Eco-system is the focus of the short video on Miles and Sherri Anderson’s ranching operation at Fir Mountain.

Miles and Sherri Anderson ranch near Fir Mountain and work with nature to protect the Greater Sage Grouse and 19 other species at risk on their land. The couple were selected as this year’s National Environmental Stewardship Award Winners.

Stock Grower President Shane Jahnke thinks the video will resonate with ranchers and consumers alike.

"Well I really think it highlights Miles and Sherri Anderson on how they've gone above and beyond on their place for all aspects, be it sustainability and species at risk.

It kind of goes hand-in-hand that ranchers are the original conservationist. Many people realize that but we'd sure like to get this voice out to everyone else," he said.

He added that the video showcases the work the couple has done in maintaining habitat for endangered species.

"If people take the time to view the video, it's not only the Sage Grouse that's on Miles' ranch.

I believe he also says on the video there are 19 other species-at-risk running around that he's done work with," he said.

He notes grazing cattle allows the natural grasses and other plants to renew themselves which provides the habitat for endangered species.

The couple were selected as this year’s National Environmental Stewardship Award Winners.
