Chef Garrett Thienes from the Harvest Eatery in Shaunavon has come away the winner this past weekend in Regina at the Gold Medal Plates Competition.

The Gold Medal Plates is a fundraiser for the Canadian Olympic Team and is the Regional leg of the Canadian Culinary Championships.

"Chef Rusty" competed against seven other chefs for the win.

He says, "I'm still kinda floatin'. I don't know if it's really totally set in, or maybe it has and it's just me. I've kinda enjoyed it for the moment and then immediately my brain started clicking in on the next one. It's kinda like winning that first round of play offs on your way to the championship."

Chef Garrett prepared Apple Smoked Wild Boar Tenderloin and says a lot of work goes into an event like this.

The Wild Boar Tenderloin will be part of Harvest Eatery's Winter Menu so Thienes encourages everyone to make a reservation and come in and sample it.

Chef Garrett is busy now preparing to represent Regina at the Nationals this coming February in Kelowna.
