Nearly 200 show cars crammed into Swift Current's Elmwood Park this past Saturday afternoon for the 41st Annual Riverside Rod Run.

The event hosted by Eliminators of Swift Current was welcomed with nice weather amidst cold and rainy week in the city.

"The weather turned out beautiful for us today," Pete Fehr, the chairman of the event, said. "It was looking a little grim yesterday but the stars aligned and here we are today."

Cypress Hills was the first host of the event from 1980-1989, then it was onto Swift Current's Kinetic Park from 1990-2003, then more recently Riverside Park entertained the yearly occurrence from 2004-2018. This was the third year the show and shine was held at Elmwood Park.

"This is a great venue," Fehr said regarding Elmwood Park. "I wasn't around for the Cypress runs but I heard they were a lot of fun back in the day. Riverside Park was great but with Shakespeare, in the park, we needed a new venue."

There were 15 sponsor awards handed out just before the car show wrapped up late in the afternoon with seven of them being awarded to southwest residents.

"What we did this year is we had the sponsors of choice pick their own vehicle just because it's their award, just to change things up and get more awards," he said.
