Hundreds of people made their way to Bouvier's Berry Basket located 12 kilometres north of Kincaid for the annual Berry Jam Music Festival.

This year it was all clear skies and a sunny day for the 5th-annual event that featured musicians from all over Saskatchewan.

Music from Jessica Hamilton, Samantha Blohm, Melanie Hamilton, K2, Julia Hickox, and the Penalty Box Punks- all from the Gravelbourg Community Music Centre - were featured as the openers.

The main-stage featured The Magnolanas, Scott Richmond, Griffin Funk, Justin Labrash & True North, Kassidy Painchard, Scott Hentcoat.

Elaine Bouvier, manager of Bouvier's Berry Basket and organizer of the festival, said that she likes to promote as many Saskatchewan artists as possible with the event. She said the reason she likes promoting local talent has to do with her son Nolan Bouvier, who is a member of the band The Magnolanas.

"Having a son that is a musician, that's what kind of sparked my passion for promoting music for young people, especially when our son was an aspiring musician," she said. "When he was just a youngster, he had a young band and a group of friends, and they practised. They did all this practising, and then there was nowhere really for them to play. They're too young to play in bars or anything, and there is really not much else, no other venues for them to play."

"To give young people a place to perform and just hone their skills a little bit. Get used to working in front of a crowd and giving them a reason to take music lessons. Seeing the young people on the stage."

The event drew both artists and people from all across southwest Saskatchewan.

"That's one of the reasons that we started it. We are kind of halfway between Lac Pelletier and Thompson Lake, and the Grassland National Park is not too far away from us," Bouvier said. "We're kind of in the middle of all that, and it's one more attraction. It's something else that people can go do that say they are camping at that lake they have another event or family orientated thing to go do."

Overall Bouvier said that she is pleased with how the event went.

"It went very well. We were really pleased, and I think it was our best one yet and our best turnout yet too," she said. "This is just ment to be family and friends getting together and just sitting back and relaxing and enjoying some music. This is the biggest that we've had yet. Hopefully, it keeps growing. We don't want to be huge. We just want to be big enough to make it fun for everybody."

She added that she estimated that around 350 people attended the event.
