The ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the grand opening of the city's new Disc Golf Course at Riverside Park took place this past weekend.

Members of the city were in attendance along with Mayor Al Bridal and representatives from Disc Golf Saskatchewan to help with the celebration.

Mayor Bridal details the importance of this new activity for the city.

"It's huge for the city just to have people out and about. We've been locked up for so long, people just need something else. I don't know how long disc golf has been around but it must be like 15 or 20 years I would think at least but it's just one more thing we can have here."

In addition, Mayor Bridal says that for him it's about the opportunity for family exercise as he looks forward to bringing his grandkids out to try the course.

The course is also cost-effective as Mayor Bridal details.

"Considering grants and even just the cost of it. The cost of it is so small compared to so many of our facilities. We have the park, and if we put the whole 18 in I don't think we would have $40,000 into it and right now with the grants I think we only have about $5000 or $8000 in total."

From a cost perspective, the course also provides residents with a game they can play for virtually no money says Mayor Bridal.
