With temperatures reaching the lowest they've been in 30 years, it's safe to say it's important to not only look after yourself but your vehicle as well.

Darcy McKeown from Kal Tire in Swift Current took the time to talk to Swift Current Online about these important tips for winter vehicles.

"Plugging in your vehicle keeps the oil warmed and the coolant warmer so that when you crank the engine it fires faster," said McKeown. "When you don't, it's harder on the engine. Cold oil is like glue in there. Cold will make the viscosity thicken."

Most people probably aren't sure which is really better, winter or all-season tires. Some folks say winter tires are important, are they?

"I would say winters are as important as everyone says," McKeown clarified. "They give you way better traction. They stay pliable from 7 degrees and less. At 7 degrees and less, all seasons get harder, so they'll start to stiffen up. The rubber will stiffen from cold and it takes longer for them to warm up and give you traction."
