This past Saturday, the SCCHS Colts football team held a short memorial ceremony for Chris Kornaga before their game against the Weyburn Eagles.

Chris was one of the official equipment managers for the Colts for the last two years, he helped with laundry and gear for the team and always brought a positive atmosphere to the people around him.

In honour of his time with the Colts, the team presented his mom and brother with a signed helmet and football prior to the game.
Both teams also wore a memorial sticker on their helmets.

Derek Murdoch, head coach of the Colts, commented on Chris’s impact on the school and the people around him;

“I think anybody that knew Chris was probably blown away by how he was just such a happy positive guy, it didn't matter if it was in the hallway or popping into someone’s class,” he said. “Just his positivity in this building is something a lot of people are going to miss.”

Murdoch also mentioned how the reaction from the memorial has been overwhelming, with many people commenting how special everything the team has done is.

Alongside the memorial game, many of the Colts team members also attended Chris’s funeral to show their support.

“You see stuff online of people sharing that we were going to have this tribute for Chris at the football game, you kind of see a lot of people appreciate that someone like Chris and his classmates can be a part of something bigger, like Colts football and I think a lot of people in the community know that Chris was important to a lot of people here.”

The Colts went on to lose their game 46-21 against the Weyburn Eagles, who have so far gone undefeated.
