The seventh annual Culture Days is in full-swing across Swift Current and southwest Saskatchewan this weekend.

Culture Days was created to help raise awareness and participation of Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities.

One event taking place in the southwest is the new exhibit of 'Health Region #1 Swift Current: The Birth of Medicare in North America.' The new exhibition can be found in the Swift Current Museum.

Stephanie Kaduck, Education & Public Programs Officer with the Museum explains why the display is of significants to the southwest.

"This is where, a bunch of grassroots people, not paying any attention to politics, got together and created a health care program that were struggling after the dirty 30's," she said.

The original provincial health care program was modeled on the city of Swift Current and the federal was modeled on Saskatchewan.

"It seemed logical in this case to do an exhibition as a show as our culture day project because it's really a provincial and nation story as well as a local one," Kaduck said.
