The Swift Current Curling Club has reached the halfway point of the 2021-22 season, a point they didn’t get to reach last year as a rise in COVID-19 cases in the winter of 2020 forced the club to shut down early that season.

“Last year was a disappointment, getting shut down early in the season, but definitely health and safety are always at the forefront for all sporting events, and curling is no different,” said Chris Haichert, General Manager of the Swift Current Curling Club. “We’ve made a lot of changes with regards to the pandemic in order to still be able to curl, and we’ve gone through the first half of the season with no cases so far. People seem healthy, having fun and staying safe, and we’re crossing our fingers that we can get through the second half as well, continuing with all the precautions we have in place to make sure that we can still get out and enjoy the sport for the second half of the season.”

The Curling Club is kicking off the second half of the season with the Saskatchewan Men’s Curling Tour Player’s Championship, with action starting at 2:00pm Friday afternoon and continuing through the weekend.

“This is an invite-only event and the top 16 teams have been invited to come battle it out this weekend here in Swift Current,” Haichert added. “We’d like to invite people down to the club to come check out some action, or log on to our website where you can watch all of the curling on our live stream.”
