The City of Swift Current recently announced a sidewalk replacement project located in the heart of the city.

Foot traffic will be interrupted on the west side of the 200 Block of 1st Avenue Northeast starting today and lasting approximately four weeks -- all weather dependent.

The modernized streetscape will include replacement of concrete, paving stone, streetlights, tree wells and street furniture.

Excavation of the existing sidewalk is typically a one-week process, then forms are set up and the concrete is poured. It needs to harden before forms are removed, which takes roughly another week.

The time for concrete to cure enough for pedestrian use is approximately 48 hours, and seven days for vehicle use.

After that, the paving stones will be installed, and an asphalt patch will be placed against the sidewalk.
