This week is national drowning prevention week and the local Fairview Pool is using activities and games to increase awareness about the cause.

Candace Pardo, Aquatics Coordinator at Fairview explains the purpose behind this week.

"All across Canada the National Lifesaving Society of Canada has tried to create awareness for drowning as there is a whole multitude of drowning occurring across Canada in lakes, in swimming pools and backyard parties."

Fairview Pool has a variety of activities happening each day this week as Pardo explains.

"Each day we have a different theme promoting the different activities, problems that occur when someone is about to drown and we also have our water smart hunt. All around Fairview Pool we have different tips that help us when we are swimming and a scavenger hunt that goes along with it. We also have a candy candy contest and lifeguards who are doing water smart tips throughout the entire day".

People of all ages are encouraged to help promote safe swimming for everyone.
