Music Camp

Aspiring young musicians can keep practicing and hone their schools at the Music Camp in the Grove.

The camp takes places July 27-31 and includes five fun days of making rock and pop music outdoors, in the big top tent at Gowan's Grove and on the Lyric Theatre stage.

Dana Rempel plays in the local band, Bears in Hazenmore, and he's organizing the camp for musicians between 13 and 18 years of age.

"We spend most of our time at the Lyric- it's sort of our state-of-the-art performance venue in town in terms of the sound system, stage and lighting - and things like that," Rempel said. "Then also we have the Gowan Grove Campground, which is just south of town. It's a nice, open, natural environment which is really conducive to song writing and a little bit of a brain break when we spend so much time working on music throughout the week."

Students will learn from wonderful musicians the skills they need to better develop their techniques, group dynamics, and stage presence, prepping them for joining a rock band. Registration is $160 includes materials and transportation,

"It's a really cool camp and we've always had really positive responses from the students. It's totally based on what students want to do and the styles of music they're listening to and want to learn about." Rempel said. "And we have a really varried palette of instructors who done a whole bunch of different things, most of which play in a band together called the Bears in Hazenmore. We've all done a whole bunch of different things and we have specialists on all different kings of instruments. We're also bringing in on Thursday night to play with the students, a band from Saskatoon called the Pistol Whips."
