The town of Gull Lake was recognized for their community this past weekend in Regina.

The Delta Hotel in Regina held the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association Gala Awards Ceremonies.

At the ceremonies, Gull Lake was awarded the Communities in Bloom Provincial addition for the category of the 501 to 1,000 population.

Newly re-elected Mayor Blake Campbell attended the awards, and explains why Gull Lake was deserving of the award.

"It really speaks to the volunteerism in our community, which was the mention in the award - community involvement.

Looking at a small community like this, to have all of the facilities we do, it's all possible because of the hard work of the many volunteer groups that we have.

It speaks volumes to our really strong sense of community," he said.

Mayor Campbell also explains the process the town has taken to get to their award-winning level.

"We've been in the Communities in Bloom program for four years. We started out in a non-evaluated category to start with.

We then moved into the competitive category the last few years with our goal of ultimately making our community a more attractive community.

I think our committee has done an outstanding job in that area," he said.
